Hand in marriage

Hi, this is the first photo I have posted on this website for C&C. I had my wife model her hand so that I could try to capture the rings in detail. I don't have a lot of experience or equipment to work with yet so I am just using my new Canon EOS 350D with the 18-55mm kit lense.

I think the photo would have worked out better if I was able to bounce some light off the diamonds and if the rings had been cleaned directly prior to the shoot.

Image

No PP'ing, just resized and sharpened.

Comments welcome/encouraged.

Cheers,
Nick

Nick - what a fantastic first post !!!
I love the clarity of the rings, and the lovely shallow DOF - drawing the eyes to where they are supposed to be.

A trick for this type of shot is to swing a led light (the small ones of course) on a cord above the hand out of the shot - gives a lovely twinkle to the diamonds :) Try it - I promise it works.

Hugs
Rel

Wow, thank you for your kind response! Such a great idea you present, I will definately have to give that another try if my wife has enough patience for me. I will make sure I post results if I get a chance to try it out. :D

Wonderful photo Nick, really good and sharp where it counts. You could always add a small "glint" in PS, but that's most probably a bit corny for a serious shot like this, Max[/u]

DOF is just perfect, and it's always good to see excellent work out of budget glass :)

Nice image Nick. As has been said the dof works well with the sharpness of the rings.
Another Tasmanian on the forum, we are slowly taking over.
Cheers

Nick,

That hand looks a bit sickly yellow. WB is off.

Nice composure.

I'm sure the ring is genuine!! :)

Terrific shot Nick. I can't add to the superlatives already given here. Look forward to more of your work.

Thanks once again for everyones comments, they have been very encouraging!

JohnD, your right there must be a few of us. TassieD is another name I recognise. I will be meeting David on Sunday at Baskerville to take some shots of the HSCC display, hopefully I'll get some more practise in then.
