Have you seen this criminal?

Last spotted on Saturday night in the Haberfield area

I've been reading Strobist for a while now. This shot was taken using a home made cardboard snoot on an SB600 fired from the kitchen while I stood in the hall (gotta love ghetto set-ups :))

C&C welcome.

Patrick

A strong, effective self portrait. Well done. I like the way you faed into the blackness because of the black attire.

Very cool self-portrait, did you fire off the camera or somebody else did?

Very nice, but can u try and diffuse the light a bit as it just seems a tad harsh.

Thanks for all the comments, very much appreciated :)

Yi-P, wireless remote & 2 second timer used to release shutter.

PiroStitch, I might try a bit of baking paper over the snoot to soften a tad, but I was aiming for dramatic, hard light & deep shadows. I will have a play some time soon with softer light using a diffuser & perhaps some shiny cardboard as a reflector :)

Nice one, Patrick. You seem to have some sort of spiny cactus growing out of the top of your head... Otherwise it's great! ;)

Patrick love ya work, classic strobist, the hard lighting the ghetto snoot, for me the biggest failing is the apparent softness in the focus on you face, perhaps its just in the small version but I think it could of been sharper.

While I like the shot you have presented I think it would also work well with a tighter crop (I can remove it if you wish) to me this shot reminds me of Space Invaders (or a similar named titled book, by Gillian Rubenstein).

Patrick,

NIce strong light and a great pose - eye contact is cool.
I agree with Craig about the crop and totally agree with him about the the Space Invaders. It gives me that 70's futurustic "man of the future" feel, which in my book, is totally rad.

Space Demons! I work in a bookstore, they pay me to know these things

Craig, I was about to reply that the image is sharp, when I checked the RAW to see that it's not. Definitely not a good move to trust AF when you're on that side of the camera. Don't mind the crop, although the poster was quite deliberate.

Interesting that Jethro calls it 1960s Mod Squad, and rokkstar says it's 1970s future man :). Obviously it's retro one way or the other :D

Thanks for all the comments,

Space Demons is the one, one of my favourite children's novels, althought I enjoyed some of her other books more. I realise the poster was deliberate, but yeah I like the simple black on black as well, although the statement is different, and yeah a retro feel to it.
