Hi all,

just got back from a surf life saving competition in Southwest Rocks NSW. We had some fantastic weather and the water temp was a glorious 21 degrees... balmy for a pale sub zero Victorian such as myself.

South West Rocks is renowned for being one of the best fishing spots in Australia.... unfortunately for me I didn't take the rod  . The scenery was just magic though!

Competition setup started at 6:00am every morning and it was all go go go until 7-8pm. I fished the camera out whenever I wasn't in an event or helping someone else setup for their next race and I'm sure I missed out on some ripper photo ops.

Here are some of the shots I was able to get. I used the 80-200 AFS and my trusty ol D70:

#4 is a great action shot, looks incredibly sharp.

#3 gives a nice feel for the event, I reckon it looks much better cropped to a pano shot without the OOF foreground people.

And that's one crazy crab in the last shot :D

Ha ha, thatnks Rooboy. I agree with the crop... foreground is a bit distracting.
This poor girl slept solidly for most of the day. It's probably best that she didn't wake up at this point ;).

Timed it well again - what rooboy said. Look out for the horizon police...especially noticeable in #2. Nice shooting. Cheers, Mick :)
