Last night i was fortunate enough to do red carpet at the Premier night of Varekai - Cirque du Soleil's latest and greatest show!

everyone was there

Our very own Miss universe Jenifer Hawkins

shot this tight 1/25 f4.5 ISO800 5600Kelvin rear sync flash you can see a slight blur, flash off hotshoe, goes against my normal rule about not getting fancy for getting critical shots but this time i took the risk and got the shot

Lara Bingle

it was an honour to get the legendary ice skating pair Torvill and Dean
i almost missed them!

at the after party, i met most of the Varekai stars by chance, they were gathered around the bar and someone pointed them out to me.
this girl was the main attraction she was an amazing dancer and contortionist, i wasn't allowed to take a setup shot of her doing her trademark contortion the cirque du soleil publicist didn't allow it

after red carpet some of the media got invited to see the show, but photography was strictly prohibited. The show was so beautiful and inspirational that if was allowed to take pictures i could never do it justice, some experiences are just best kept in memory, it was the best Cirque Du Soleil show ever!

if Varekai doesn't inspire you i don't know what will - get out there and see it!!

There is certainly a "wow" factor in these images Wendell.
Congratulations - very well done.

Great shots Wendell - as expected. I think Jennifer is one of the most naturally beautiful faces gracing the media at the moment and you've captured her well but is that a stray hair across her lips?

I won't be able to catch Varekai when it comes up here but I did see Allegria when it was in town. Cirque de Soleil is, as you say, truly amazing and just one of those things people should experience at least once in their lifetime. I've never been so totally immersed in a show.

The first few captures especially the one of Miss Hawkins is definitive of your style in terms of composition and colour. Glad to see you push the boundaries a bit with getting fancy and seeing it pay off! :)

Great shots - I'm off to see the show on Saturday, so I'm really looking forward to it. Do you think Jen will be there for a 2nd viewing?

Much better Wendell - plenty of eye contact, and you started with the right subject ;)

Do you ever sleep?

Nice subjects.

The first two look a little soft. What were your settings?

ha chris
Thankyou everyone

Most of the press was exhausted after the mischa thing on wednesday so when when the media call for the varekai premier went out everyone was like so over it
so less media came and i got a chance to get those full length and eye contact shots

I had no idea they would be invting media to see the show I.
I must say my most successful night yet!

my spine is still tingling after last nights performace
10 times better than Alegria!!

they have a slight motion blur to them

1/25 f4.5 ISO 800 @70mm 28-70 f2.8, I wanted to get some of the background in
the slight blur on the hair is most obvios gives it more dynamism and ambience

otherwise if i shot at my usual 1/250 f4.5 the background woudl of been totally black and boring
