Hello All, well i have been to Phillip Island over the weekend for state titles. Went with a mate as his son was racing in the 125's and give me a chance to sort out my spots for Moto GP, although i have a blister under my foot from walking so did not wonder too far yesterday.

Anyhow here are a few pics and i might do a part 2 later, first pic shot at 600m, others 300m focal length.

Once again John they are all great. Excellent detail.
I really like the way you capture the heat haze of the exhaust, in particular in the 1st shot.

How did your mate's son go in the 125's?

Thanks Mark, he did ok but was a new bike and first time racing at the Island, but all was ok till last race as he fell off, nothing major bit of cosmetic damage to the bike and a scratch.

These 125's are unreal and have a top speed of around 230ks which is a lot of speed out of a lil 125.

John, do you pan with the 300mm on a mono-pod or handheld? Any hints?

I was utterly shagged (and not in the enjoyable way) after a day of handheld at Oran Park.

Great pics (as usual) by the way, nice and sharp, that 300mm is sharp!

Cheers,

Alan.

Alan, mate i know how it feels and yes i have done it without monopod and dont anymore. I do pan with it and always use the pod whenever i am going to use the 300 as it is to heavy to hold all day and is the only time i would use the pod.

I will either sit my hand on the top to steady it or i put the tips of my fingers holding the lens hood which then steadies it as like at the Island on the weekend it was a bit windy so helps.

These pics i have not touched other than adjust levels and curves, and at 600m= 900m in 35m terms i still find it focus very fast and sharp enough, but i do only use the 2xtc on nice sunny days.
