Sat night Astronomy through the telescope

Well, the night was excellent,so decided to re shoot a couple of nebula that I have done in the past.
Lagoon Nebula, this shot is a combination of 10 minute at 800 ISO, 10 minute at 400 ISO and a 5 nimute at 100 ISO, for a total of 25 minutes. You have to do this to record the range of detail across the nebula, bit like a HDR shot. No dark frames taken or used as the noise is not offensive enough to worry about it..
Very happy with the range and tone of this shot.
The telescope used was a 20 inch with a focal length of 2540mm.

Second shot is the triffid nebula, this was a combo of a 15min 800 ISO, 10 min 800 ISO, 10 minute 400 ISO and a 5 minute 400 ISO, giving a total of 40 minutes. Again happy with the range and tone captured and no dark frames used..

Spectacular as always BigV :)

These show two things:
- The amazing pictures which can be obtained with the right equipment, and a great deal of patience;
- The incredible gifts we have been given of a wonderful world, and the eyes to see it :)

Hash as a general rule, you need about 10 minutes at 800 ISO to cature enough detail to overcome the noise of the chip. The longer you go the more detail you capture but if you are in a light polluted area you will catch that light as well, so to overcome this a series of exposures is taken and then stacked together ivia software to give the final result.

Hi
Love your shots, we so much want a good telescope at our house.
How do you over come the earths movement, to avoid the blur.
Thanks
Andrew

Andrew, the telescope mount has a motor in it which slowly turns the scope to counter the effect of the rotation of the earth. Without this, the stars would show up trail marks in a little over 30 seconds..

BigV, would there be any chance of seeing a photograph of the telescope and related equipment? This is a fascinating area of photography.
