Some shots taken yesterday. Two frisky females hell bent on having fun meant that no consideration was given to this poor photographer trying to experiment with my new lens (105mm).

Still, I was happy overall with the results and got a good proportion of keepers.

One thing I learned was not to bother with the camera flash for fill due to distances to subject needed with the 105mm when framing for full length shots.

Hello John there are some great shots there! I have just got my flash and am really trying to get an understanding of portraiture

I do have some comments, hopefully constructive - I have looked at these on both a CRT and laptop LCD (much brighter)

I would have used the fill flash still (does the SB600 have a zoom-head? The Sb800 wil zoom to 105mm in TTL) as some are a little dark

#1 - a little too much magenta (or just very rosy cheeks!)

#2 - love the highlights in the hair, but could do with some light on the face

#3 - Looks like the green is well oversaturate (green cheeks in this one)

#4 - nice colour but a very white background makes for a high contrast you could put a blue-gradient fill through the white?

Yes, I wish that I'd had the flash with me, that would have given better balanced results. Next time.

Now that you have pointed it out, #3 does look a bit too green. The shade cloth over the equipment is green so it has most likely contributed to the overall cast. This is the original image so you can see that she was very underexposed, I didn't do very good balancing the overall exposure.



Still have lots to learn to get consistent results, all good fun.
