Just noticed Justin's duck thread, he beat me to posting the sunday duck photos by a few hours
These are my first attempts at capturing wildlife with the D70 and kit lens.

I used the flash because they were in the shadows and were constantly swimming around. It didn't reflect well off their feathers though and they look out of focus, particularly the fluffy breast area...
I think they turned out reasonably but I'd be happy to hear everyone elses thoughts :)

Cheers

Jay

I think you've done fairly well here Jay.

Number one is the pick of the bunch, and it would have been great if you had managed to get the whole duck in the frame.

In the others, maybe the flash is a little bit too dominant and the exposure could be a bit better balanced.

What is the latest on your BGLOD issues?

Last two really pop! Good work! I would have been tempted to lighten the eyes a tad so that they were more prominant.

Been a while since a duck thread

While there are some bright spots (assumedly due to flash on water?) #2 does it for me... I like the bright eye detail and the OOF mate in the background tagging along...

Although the subject to background separation in the last really makes the subject jump up... As Matt suggested, just needs the eyes brightened up a smidge, make a feathered slection around the eyes, and apply some subtle levels by bring the shite point down a bit...

Is that a technical term I haven't picked up on yet ?
I haven't started getting into PP yet, still getting the hang of the camera itself but I think it's nearly time to start exploring some of the filters and tricks that have been suggested in recent posts :)

Thanks for the DOTD award Justin :P I'll make Quacky here my avatar for now

Number 4 is the ducks guts - I meant erm..the ducks head, and err body! :)

Seriously - lovely shots but the curiosity of the last shot is terrific :)
