Took these this morning, not sure which one I like

this one



...or this one from a different angle and more of a silhouette



I tend to think the passing bird in this one is distracting but then maybe the poles alone are too boring alone and it adds to the shot ? Thoughts ?



or this one with the sun just at the tip of one of the poles.



or with a quick fiddle of the hue and colour balance, a MARS OUTPOST


I haven't done any PPing to the sky, what sort of tricks/filters are you guys using to get really outstanding looking skies ?

Of these I like the first one best, mainly because I prefer the extra detail in the poles and the more interesting perspective.

I find that using a polarising filter gives more contast to the clouds and deepens the colour of the sky.

The second one, to me, has the most appeal as being the strongest image here - I quite like it

The stack in the first is poorly positioned in that it covers one of the other poles (probably not much you can do about the position!).
I find the position of the sun in the fourth distracting - being put right on top of the pole doesn't look right.
You're right, the bird in the third pic is distracting - but I also think the exposure in this case doesn't work as well as in the second.

The second - with just a little foreground detail, poles in sillouette and sun nicely hiden but reflecting off the next pole - is a striking image. The sky is great, and the balance of all the elements works nicely.

That's what I think anyway - keep in mind I am not a trained arty person, just a regular dag

I agree with cricketfan. I think the first one is best because it has poweful colours and more details. Gee, photography can be sooooo subjective!

Number 2 is also my favourite shot, the sillouette works very well.
Did you take a shot in between the exposures of images 2&3? I would like to see how it would look if the detail in the foreground was brought out a touch more.
