Brisbane's annual Riverfire festival last night featured the Roulettes, a dual F111 dump-and burn and the traditional fireworks. As usual, click pic for larger image:

I was on a friend's boat on the river (which presented problems for photography), and I swear I could have touched the F111 as it roared past. The noise was absolutely incredible - you could feel it vibrating through your body. In this pic, the plane has just passed over my head and is heading towards the Story Bridge in the background.
Difficult to photograph - it looks like the sun has risen in the middle of the night!

Yep - they do a special "flame-on" by dropping fuel into the exhaust of the jet and the fuel ignites into a ball of flame.

Quite impressive to see and hear. 8)

Excellent shots! I particularly like the fireworks.

We were at the Gabba last night (watching the lions get another bath), when the F111 went over even the stands were rumbling.....

Nice shots Trevor. Boat movement would have indeed caused some dramas for fireworks images.

Stephanie and I were at a fundraising function Lourdes Hill College at Hawthorne a little further downstream. The College is well situated on top of a cliff but, being the chairman of the organising committee, I was busy working and didn't actually get to see much of the fireworks but of course saw the 'pigs' do the flypasts.

My brother flew a couple of dump-and-burn finales back when they still had the Warana Parades in Brisbane. They were daylight sorties though (with only one aircraft) so not quite as spectacular as the night hops.

Terrific shots Trevor. Impressive effort to capture the F111 shot from a boat. Did you crop the top from the fireworks shot?? Cheers, Mick :)

No - I had the kit lens at 18mm and still ran out of room. I wanted to catch some of the reflection in the water.
