A couple of weeks ago I shot my friend's band when they played at uni, first time I had done anything of the sort, but I think I got quite a few nice shots. A couple of things I learnt: watch for mic stands and speakers getting in your frame, the 50mm is too tight to get shots of the full band, and too wide to get full frame shots of the performers, yet the large apeture was needed. Oh and I need more CF cards
#1
#2
#3
#4 something a bit different
C&C welcome.

Jack excellent work my friend, I'm most impressed. Probably for me the weakest is the first and all the others I like for different reasons.
#2 Love the stance and the colour, also how he's body and the light are parallel, makes for a strong composition
#3 Love the Drama of the harsh white light, the figure in black rocking out.. my only niggle is catching the speaker at the bottom of the frame
#4 Nice grain and black and white treatment has a Kurt Cobain feel to it for me..

Cool shots Jack. The only one that doesn't appeal greatly is the first - mainly due to the composition - angle of stance etc. #3 & #4 are my equal favs.
Were they all shot using a 50mm (I'm interested cos I just got a 50). What settings?
Good work Jack, Cheers, Mick.

For me #2 and #4 are the standouts here. #2 as Craig says has it all colour, composition and angle. #1 is well lit and has good colour, but is too remote because of the angle (not intimate enough - would have been better from in front). #4 is a similar side shot of the singer, but works because it's more intimate - up close & personal. #3 I get the concept, bit it's too blown for my tastes. I'd try adjusting the brightness and contrast as I think there's a very strong image hiding in there. Maybe even try a really hasrh B & W conversion.
All up this is an impresdive group of shots given the difficult lighting in live venues. Bet your friend is very happy.
