Sign of the Times

Wivenhoe Dam is one of Brisbane's main water supplies. This inlet is part of the rapidly receding lake. The boat ramp is to the right of the sign, out of frame. The water is probably 200m away from the end of the ramp... and not likely to get any closer for a long time.

PP inc duplicate layer, gaussian blur, multipy blend mode, masking to exclude the sign from the multiply effect, curves, cloning out the road in left corner and repositioning the upper bolt on the sign, re-size and smart sharpen)Comments on the shot appreciated.

26 views and no comments? Geez - even if you don't like it please tell me what's wrong with it. :)

Ok, I'll bite.

The Arrow points out of the frame, so I'm left wondering where and what the rigging zone is.

That said I do like your PP

Thanks Craig - fair point too but that was exactly the point of my composition: that the rigging area is miles away from the actual water. I guess you had to be there!

(Maybe I should flick the arrow around...!)

Simon - I prefer the first shot as it has a wee bit more definition

Simon. I don't even know what a rigging zone is . As for the image. I think the rework is a step in the right direction, but it's a little too dark at the bottom.

Simon, to be fair, you composition works when you read your description, but I don't think its strong enough to get the point across by itself. I'd be tempted (don't tell energypolice) to change the sign to Read Boat Ramp ->

Make the point a little clearer.
