Images from Canadian Rockies

Well, I got back home about 3 weeks ago from my photographic tour of the Canadian Rockies. Below are 3 of my favourite images, although picking just 3 was a pretty difficult task (the rest can be seen on my website at http://frankenstein.smugmug

The Rockies are simply spectacular. The tour was for 10 days, and each day - no, each hour - we came across another picture perfect scene. The tour was with Travel Images (http://www.travelimages.com/index.html) and I can't recommend them highly enough - John and Kathy Baker were wonderful and the 9 of us had a wonderful time. I'm already looking at their 2007 schedule!
I ended up taking 2500 photos, and found storing them on my PDX70 storage device worked very well. I whittled them down to 600 or so for a slideshow for the family, 128 for the website, and 3 for this forum.
Enjoy!

Frank

the first and third ones are brilliant. If i had to choose, i'd say #3 is the clear winner with the view from the WA lens. I'd be tempted to crop out the foreground rocks and just maintain the focus on the serene mountains and lake.

Hi Frank, I agree with Waynes picks. Beautiful scenery. I've only been to Canada when there is snow on the ground - love to get there in the warmer months one day. Cheers, Mick

#1 and #3 for me too. These are superb images. In #2 the treee cutting through the LHS distracts too much. BTW your url is wrong you have qh not hq. You have some bloody good shots in the gallery too (I found it a little slow to load the images)

Bloody dyslexia! Thanks Peter - fixed.
Re. the slow loading images: when I "save to web" from PS I try to save them at "high", which generally make the file size approx. 80-130kb. I'm always aware that these may load slowly, but I'm worried that if I make them smaller, the image quality will visibly deteriorate.
Has anyone got any advice on the size vs quality conundrum?

Wendell,
it was indeed breathtaking. My travel agent told me, before I went, that the Canadian Rockies was the most spectacular scenery she had ever seen - a big call for someone whose job is to travel the world. And she was right. I remember one day about halfway through the trip, I was standing next to a waterfall, looking up the river to the forest, mountains, snow etc in the distance - I commented to a fellow photographer that I was getting a bit tired of photographing perfect scenery every day, and he just sighed and agreed. The problem now is that back home, the photographic challenges now seem a bit pale, although I must admit that I haven't really been in the mood to take photos since I've been back. I think the Rockies have spoilt things for me!

Those photographs are beautiful. I like all three pictures that you posted here.
The reflections are nice and in the first one, the water is so blue! So so blue! and so many of those trees I rarely see here! Very nice :)

The photographs are great, but being there in person must have been a great experience too!

I agree with the rest #3 is amazing. Cropping some of the front rocks could help, it looked quite good in browers. No.1 is great too.
