I'm currently on 3 weeks leave  and have been scouting some locations around home for shots. I went out yesterday, but the weather was crap. I was unhappy with every shot I took and deleted them all. Today I went back to the CF card and retrieved them. I've done work on 3 possibles, but I'm still not sure if they are any good as they are very dark and sombre. I'd appreciate your honest comments. If they are shit tell me.

I like what you've done with the colours in the last two, the first one doesn't strike me much.

The second one is incredible, and I reckon would be worth printing up - OK, it's probably not what the sky really looked like, but it's a really cool pic.

The third one hasn't got quite the punch of the second. I think it's because the colour changes from top to bottom, rather than the water reflecting the clouds. I'd like to see this with the sky closer to the colour you have achieved with the water.

You didn't pick a great time to be on holidays did you - at least the fish tank should be clean now ;)

Fish tank gets a clean tomorrow

Here's the original for #2 to answer your Q about the colour of the sky. It's before ANY processing (distortion is because it was taken with the 10.5 DX FE - as was the 3rd).

Peter,

I think leave is stuffing with your thoughts.

#2 and #3 are great.

Would you like to go for a shoot sometime? I'm waiting on my 12-24, there was no stock when I ordered :( When I get it, I want to have a good play.

Peter - I love the 2nd shot. As Leon has said it's probably not what the sky looked like however a great pic and some fantastic PP work on it. The third image doesn't really grab me much, not sure what it is but the water looks like a painting or something. Not sure what it is. Keep on posting though :)

Hi Peter,

really like the photos.
I think the colour manipulations bring these shots into the realm of paintings.
Just imagine these were paintings - how lovely.

Peter No 2 and 3 are very nice images even if the weather was crap. I believe that you can take some great pics when the skys are grey due to the fact that you can introduce colour by way of ISo or exposure due to the lack of natural light.
Different hues can be attained and I believe that if most tried to exploit this different lighting medium then you will learn to image in a different realm.
Just another thought, to which Peter has exploited and gained.

I'm a fan of the square crop as well, although I did like the original too.

Don't go deleting your images straight away next time, you've got some really nice ones.

Stubbsy,

2 & 3 are great and my pick, 1 comes up better if you drop the light levels.

The clouds come up better and puts a more stormy feel to it.

Or

You could INVERT

Stubbsy like 2 & 3 especially with the square crop, I also like 1 but without most of the foreground, just crop the bottom 1/3rd away (will still leave you with an 8mp image  )
