Just wondering what people think of this shot. Is the DOF too shallow? I was about 3 foot back from a rather heavy cyclone fence. I am off to the zoo again soon and would like to hear some comments on this type os shot.

Colors are fantastic, i dont think there's anything wrong with the DOF, IMO the shot would look a little less distracting if the focus was on the tiger the the rear....you know like he/she's looking over the sleeping individuall......Great shot none the less...

I agree, I did try a shot like that, only to have a lady walk into me and scrape my $1200 lense on the fence. Had to calm down for 5 mins.,

Ahh you gotta hate that, i dont think i'd fare well in that situation......

As you have 2 tigers in such close proximity I would have preferred to see them both in focus ie increase DOF.

The background is a bit distracting so either clone the background if you can or decrease DOF a lot (this may even take the 2nd tiger out of play here too).

Which way to go?? Hmmmm..your call!

I also find that the sort of greenish perspex?? line at the bottom very annoying - is this a screen of some sort. Obviously I haven't been to the zoo in a long time.

This was actually at Mogo Zoo, down near Batemans Bay, and highly recommended too.

Will have a crack at a greater DOF next time I see 2 animals so close.

I also think the colours are lovely and I agree with earlier comments that perhaps the two tigers should be in focus, if possible. May be if you can focus on some object roughly halfway between the two tigers and then moving the animals back into the frame while keeping the shutter still halfway, if you are using the automatic mechanism. You can, of course, override the automatic settings and focus on the beasts manually. It is just an idea? I know it is easier to say than doing it.

I dont mind the shallow DOF myself...its different from the normal take on a scene like this...and after all isnt that what photography is all about...showing the world through our eye's..the way we see it..

It is a terrific little zoo. Well worth a look. I was there for 4 hours. Can post some more shots if people are interested.
