I've been experimenting with off camera flash. 2 SB800s off camera, D200, 150mm 2.8 Sigma macro lens. I was using the 2 SB800s to get a more complex shadow effect on the flowers to give them a three dimensional feeling.
Comments and critique please.

Some great experimentation out of these two I prefer the first it appears cleaner to me. The gallery has some cool shots too, are they all your own home grown flowers ?

Great experiment. To me, they lack some sort of details in being a flower, saturation and colour brightness.

Thanks for the comments Craig and YiP.
Craig, no they are not from our garden, unfortunately. They were taken at a recent Daffodil Show in Hobart.
YiP, I've already bumped the colour saturation a little. If I take it up much more, the pinks will become reds. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but I tried to balance the reality of the actual colours with what looks good, so I didn't PP too much.
The flashes were mounted about 45 degrees down and to the left and right respectively. Being mounted low caused a bit of uneven exposure top and bottom of the flower. Next I will try mounting the flashes at flower level, but still 45 degrees out to the left and right and using a little bit of fill flash from the inbuilt d200 flash so the shadows won't be quite so harsh.
A lot of fun learning this wireless remote sb800 stuff controlled from the d200.
Cheers

Thanks Wendell.
I tried a similar deal at a cemetary last night. I'll check them out and post them later. 2 remote SB800s and a bit of fill from the on board d200 flash. The d200s ability to control multiple banks of remote flashes is just great. Just need another 2 or 3 SB800s.
I assume SB600s would also work in remote
mode this way?
