Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Just a BIG flagpole

This is the first of a number of series of images from my two day weekend sojourn in Canberra. Thanks to Christian, Thommo & Daniel_R for showing me the hospitality of their wonderful city.

The first and last images were taken with the Nikkor 10.5 DX fisheye and 15% defished. The middle two images were taken with the Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8

Peter, some interesting perspectives...
The first one I like but find the bottom corner edges a little distracting.

The middle two have an abstract quality that I quite like - they look good together and probably (in my opinion) not look too good as stand alones.

My pick of the bunch tho is the last one - the curves and lines work well here as do they reflections and the people (couple on the left) give it all perspective. Nicely done mate.

Peter what Geoff said re #1 plus I find the light area on #4 a distraction. The prize goes to #2 and #3 with due regard to the saturation

Chris, Geoff

I hate you both

You have managed to point out the flaws I saw with the two fisheye images and in fact I've tried to fix both (the versions here are better than what I started with).

Obviously I have to try harder.

Chris - Your comment re: the saturation is duly noted

I really like the 2nd flagpole in the middle set of two. Great deep blue sky and leading lines straight into the blank dark sky with the pole. Very nice abstract.

ohh,
Is the first pic which got you hanged over the wall?? :P

yeah, i think the general rule is darker borders keep the viewer drawn in, lighter ones draw the eye out.

that said, i still like it. great colour in all of them

I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"

Thanks for your comments people. I must say I could have spent a whole day just taking pics inside and out of new parliament house.

Peter,

2 & 3 for me...That being said I dont mind the compositions of the other two. Just an interesting take on the flag pole in 2 & 3 that took my eye. plus the blues look better in these two. Nice shots.

Peter
It's not really a flagpole...it's a super sensitive listening device so the pollies can her what visitors are saying about them. It also attracts lighting occasionally. :D

By the way...interesting point of view.
