About the only good use for clover in one's lawn is to attract bees. Paused during mowing duties yesterday to snap this guy before I, unfortunately, levelled his feeding grounds with the old Masport 4-stroke. I did chase he and his mates off though and they all quite happily ducked next door to whiter pastures!!

I'm not happy with the shot - would've liked to have gotten MUCH closer but he was very twitchy. The only thing I like about the image is that it's a behavioural shot rather than just a straight pose; showing the subject at work.

C&C appreciated. :)

The background seems to mess up the shot. Pretty hard to compose a shot like this one.
I also think I would want to wear something to stop the chance of a sting.
Nice try Simon. Keep at it. Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Its lovely and sharp..but agree the busy background detracts from the subject. Still bee's will land where they will won't they. Its a good shot and I would be happy with it.

Thanks Mick - you're right about the background. Without a shovel, I couldn't get any lower to get a cleaner backdrop. I was already flat on the ground (as can be seen by the height of the clover). Maybe I should pack some excavation gear!

thats one of the things i like about this pic, is the hight that you have given to the clover as you said.

Thanks NJ - I particularly wanted to give it a 'land of the giants' look to it; not wanting to be looking down on the proceedings but rather a bug's eye view.

Pall - I reckon I'll carry around a dark green or black card to slot behind these shots in future! (Either that or just work on my DOF calculations... :? )

Simon,

You didn't consider the idea of placing a mirror on the ground, and then shooting the reflected image with the sky in the background? :)

Nice work, and it's good to see that you're giving this new toy the workout that it deserves.
