I think this image would have looked better in colour. I'm guessing the very dark top is heavily polarised blue and as such works against the image in B & W for me, but would be quite strong in colour. As it is the top is just too dark. Sorry

The smooth gradient and high contrast on the memorial really work, although i cant help but think the upper section of the sky needs ot be a touch lighter, thats being very picky tho.

I actually like the gradient, I have a similar shot but with a little more of the base, I don't have a CPL for my 50mm, I hope you don't mind me posting my version.

Not at all, the colour version of mine looks kinda the same.

For me the dark blue sky was the reason I tried the B&W on it ;-)

Shot it with the 24-120 without a CPL...
