Im not sure if the DOF is sufficient on this butterfly shot. What do you guys think?

I like to see shots like the 1st one, complete subjects especially colourfull subjects like butterflys in full focus to get the overall effect sharp and clear.
Detail shots like the 2nd or head on macro insect shots etc I think these shots benifit by shallow dof with all the detail concentrated on just the part you are after.
I like both these shots but would prefer the 1st one to be all in focus.

Cheers Rick.

Getting that 1st shot completely in focus would be nigh-on-impossible with a single shot.
I think you've made a good compromise by getting the eyes and most of the face/thorax in focus, with the rest dropping away but retaining recognisable shapes (but then maybe I'm biased because I'm so used to looking at shots with limited DOF ;)).

Thanks Rick. I would have too but like Dave said it was alomost impossible to get such a high DOF when shooting so close.

Cheers for your comments guys
