I was down at Wirrina Cove, south of Adelaide, and tried my ND (solid) filter for the first time to try and capture some silky water shots. Here are the results.

I guess I find the shots a bit boring. What would you do to make the most of this location?

I would have thought the waves would have been enough to make silky water. Did I really need to go all the way to multiple seconds of exposure for perhaps multiple waves?

Thanks

Daniel

Daniel get in a lot closer. Pick up some of the spray and action. Get on the rocks near the action.

I know you are right, but I'd be concerned with the D70-spray-rocks combination. :(
Thanks

Nothing a good clean down wouldn't fix. I cop sea spray all the time and do my cleaning after the event.

Definately gettign closer with a focus on the water moving over the rocks.

Hi daniel, I like the effect in #2 with 0.5 sec exposure. It gives the silky water effect without making it look too unrealistic. I've seen shots with silky smooth spray shooting up in the air and it just doesn't look right (IMHO). #2 looks smooth and tranquil but still credible.

Oh, and I agree, get in closer. There's a famous saying, don't know who by (probably Ansell Adams or someone like that) that says: If your photos aren't good enough, you're not close enough.

Nice result on #2 though.

Cheers
John

I agree with getting the closer. The lower the better for this situation I think.
