had the opportunity to get on top of a tall building overlooking hyde park yesterday so went looking for non cliche shots of sydney.
not easy.
but looking down on the war memorial and pool of remembrance, I thought it might be amusing to record how it changed as night came on the city
firstly late arvo before sunset:

secondly just with the last light:

finally after dark:

comments appreciated.

Steve, all 3 are winners for me. You are getting great results from that vantage point. All 3 have their own charm. :D

These are great with #2 being the best for me. #1 is a bit too high in blue/green saturation to me. While #3 is an interesting image, I prefer the framing of the first 2.

Peter:
interesting that you say about the blue green on the first one

When I first saw it, I thought it had a blue cast and dropped blue,
but when I looked later, it seemed to have a green cast so I redid it and left it at that, but now still looks odd, too saturated or something.

anyhow, looking down I decided that I was going to do a series of the memorial and pool.

I was ideally after the framing in #2, but early in the arvo the light was bright as these are due west of my position.

and after dark there was no light in the pool, so shots with that in it sucked, just a dark area.

so after dark I had to concentrate on the memorial only.

Steve,

I like the composition and lighting in #2. Now, if you just get Clover to make sure that that tree is included in the upcoming culling of trees in Hyde Park and The Domain ....

In all seriousness, here's a challenge: have yourself and Joh on roof, cameras mounted on tripods. Have an assistant down in the park, suitably armed with an SB800.

Open the shutter, and have the assistant run around popping the flash at various different parts of the scene, painting it with light.
