Some footy action - TAC Cup Grand Final

Gave the D200 its first workout with live sport - Gee those sport shooters have it easy don't they? Point your camera at the action, let the brilliant AF tracking system do its thing, and hold down the shutter release. There is some skill left though, in ANTICIPATING the action.

Didn't take many pics during the actual game on the weekend (AFL Grand Final). Not only is it impossible to shoot AND barrack at the same time, the sight of a D200 & 80-200/2.8 being launched from the 2nd level of the Ponsford Stand is, although therapeutic, neither safe nor economical.

The AF of the D200 is great - much faster and more reliable than the D70s. The metering is also amazing. I took a whole weekend's worth of shots in many different lighting conditions, and I think I have many more keepers than usual.

Well I must say these shots are fantastic. Looks like The pennies will be going toward a D200

Nice action shot6s, maybe a bit too much contrast or something but still good shots. Not a footy fan but yeh can make some good pictures at times, well done.

Yeah, unfortunately it was a beautiful day - sun was shining, causing all sorts of problems for photographers ;) I like it when it's bright but overcast. I had the sun behind me though at least, so I wasn't shooting into the sun.

Nice shots as always Des, and congrats on the new toy :). Difficult conditions given the harsh lighting, #3 is timed perfectly.

Totally off topic, but you may want to stick one of these on your car

Congrats on the purchase Des! I'd heard a rumour you had cancelled the honeymoon ;)

Pity about the result, I actually hoped Sydney would win (which is rather hard for me - Sydney is not even in my top 3 preferred AFL sides ;) ). Was a great finish, but the better team on the day really did win I think.

Some good pics there mate, although the background in most is a little overpowering - perhaps a bit of play with PP would help out :) Can you give us some exif details please? Ta.

Looking forward to catching up with you to swap D200 stories ;)

Patrick, the folk over at Dockerland have always been favourites of mine :) Last year, they turned it into Swans Land for a week in honour of West Coast losing ;)

Leon, you are right - the best team won on the day. Really would have felt like we stole it had we won. Wouldn't have complained if we did though!!

I was mostly shooting at 1/1000, with an aperture of between 5.6 and 8 - in hindsight, I might have gone manual and opened the aperture right up. I know I have taken some nice shots before at the SCG with those settings, to get a nicely blurred background. I might have a play with PP a little later in the week. I really prefer to get my image 95% right before just minor tweaking in PP. Obviously I'm no photographic genius, so I have a little ways to go yet :)

Thanks all for the comments.
