Fireworks in Melbourne

Earlier this year there was a fireworks show in Melbourne in the Docklands precinct. Having never taken photos of fireworks before, I decided to wander in and have a crack.

Whilst setting up, I noticed the Bolte bridge off to the side with some nice reflections, and general cruise boats milling around waiting for the show to begin. I captured the image, and on reflection when I got home, this was my favourite of the night (even if I had come to shoot fireworks).

I did shoot some fireworks as well:

All of these images have been sharpened, but no other adjustments have been made.

They were all shot at F9

Picture #1, #3, #4 were 4 second exposures, #2 was 3 seconds.

The camera was in manual focus because the autofocus had nothing to focus on. I used the infra-red control I purchased with the D50, to trigger the shots, and moved the shutter times around a couple of times.

From the 70 or so shots I took, the shorter exposure times (3 seconds) had a bit more colour. The longer exposure (4 seconds) seemed to burn out the colour a bit more.
