G'day all

It's been quite a while since I've made a post - one reason should be apparent from the series below :)

This is my new daughter Keira & my wife & I have been going crazy with our cameras since she was born 7 weeks ago.

I tinkered with the levels & saturation at home on my CRT, but it looks a little overdone on my LCD at work. Hopefully it's just limited to my monitor.

I prefer close, intimate shots & am bouncing the flash so I don't blind her, but I'm not all that happy with the results. Should've gone with the 580EX...

Comments, tips & critique more than welcome.

Cheers,
Craig

Edit: Remove surplus images!

Congratulations!

Those last three do it for me. I particularly like the last, for its selective focus (while not making the out-of-focus unrecognisable). They're all quite lovely though.

No suggestions from me - I've little experience photographing newborns (apart from my sister's early last year, so I'm interested in what people with more experience than me say).

Take heaps of photos, Craig! It's about the only advice I always offer people, completely unsolicited, even if they already know it, and even when they're telling me "SHUT UP, DAMN IT! I KNOW!" ;) . Down the years, you won't regret it.

Cheers,
MarcL

Congratulation,

As a new dad myself ( 12 weeks ago ), I know how easy it is to get snap happy ( over 1300 shots ) with a newborn. I love No#2, 4, 5 and 6.

I borrowed a mates EF 100mm macro for a few days, but found it was too sharp for a newborn, so I have been using my Sigma 30mm for my shots. What lens did you use for these?

What flash are you using? I ask because I'm in the middle of trying to decide between the 430ex and 580ex. I only had the onboard and wish now that I had an external. Especially for the hospital shots.

cheers,

Craig,

No worries, and given your excitement and pride - and the importance of this occasion - I wasn't overly concerned about this.

Nice images here, and as MarkL advises, shoot, shoot, and then shoot some more.

Cheers, and congratulations.

The kit 18-55. Still haven't managed to upgrade, but maybe Keira will give me a good excuse. And thank you baby bonus

I got the 430EX - I ran out of time before Janelle went into hospital to wait for a 580EX. I'm now kicking myself that I wasn't more organised & got the biggun.

& congratulations yourself!

Congrats! My girl is called Kyra too, spelt different, but pronounced the same.

It's a catch-22 though, the kids are great subjects, but they often mean you don't have the money for the gear! Maybe she'd like to see some nice streetlights? You couldn't lose!

Aye, there's the rub.

Good to see you posting again Craig, I see you've found a host for your photos too which is great. The last one is my favourite in these series of #4 but some of your later shots IMO are much better then these.
