bird i d dove

took this camping does anybody have an id for it. it was feading on little yellow/orange berry's on the shrub it's sitting in. thanks.

Whatever it is still is a lovely picture, sharp and lovely colours. I guess it was taken in a dark shade. Well done!

Nice shot Pa.

My guess is that it's a Brown Cuckoo Dove - Macropygia amboinensis - often confused with the Flaming Hot Pink Cuckoo Dove - Macropygia mardigrasis :lol:)

thanks zafra52 it was in under a canopy of tea tree and pretty dark.simon thanks you may well be right, i've sent an email to the parks and wildlife service to see if they can ID it.i saw another as well and it had a green back and wings i assume [male or female] of species.

The green winged one would probably be an Emerald Dove - Chalcophaps indica. It doesn't have that little white flash under the eye like the Brown Cuckoo does (it's fairly obvious in the photo).

thanks simon we've looked in our bird book and not been able to find anything like it as yet,now we have a name we'll have a look on the net.
