Sunset @ the lakeI've had a hectic weekend playing Hunter tour guide for Sheepie. Here's the only image I've processed so far. Despite being quite dark, I quite like this one. Click the pic for a larger version.

Faaark!
Stubbsy, this is simply one of the best landscapes I've seen from you. Too dark? Looks fine here.
Re: Sunset @ the lake
So do I Peter. A lovely serene shot. I like the subtle variations in the colours in the sky and the water and the way the jetty leads your eye into the image. Cheers John D3, D300, 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 85/1.4, 80-400VR, 18-200VR, 105/2.8 VR macro, Sigma 150/2.8 macro

That is pretty damn good, sorry its bloody excellent. Shame about the super bright light reflection on the left.. but its a tiny tiny niggle.
I've gotta say that this looked much better on your new monitor this morning Peter

Well done Peter,
That is a great spot at Belmont. I've always wanted to get a shot from there at sunset, now I won't, don't know that I could improve on this ![]() ![]() And I don't think it looks too dark. When I saw Sheepie's shot of the kids on the jetty, I thought I recognised the location. Thanks for sharing, André EDIT: I was wondering how you got that pano shot, should have known, looked at the exif, the fisheye king. You make that lens sing!) Peter,
I keep coming back to this photo, love it. A few questions -did you have to de-fish it much? -interested to know why you used shutter priority as opposed to aperture or manual, just curious thanks, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. I know he was practising his counting skills while taking shots - can only assume this meant he was using BULB with his remote ![]() ![]() *** When getting there is half the fun! ***
Firstly thank you all for your comments.
Yes the horizon is crooked (I did fix it, but managed to post one I had not fixed). I'll fix that tonight. As for selling prints. My honest view is the image is not good enough to print bigger than A3. When I look at it at about 200% I can see a lot of colour pixel noise in the water (a purple pixel here, a pale blue one there) which I fear may make a large version look bad. That said I've printed it at A3 and it looks fine.
You are correct that the image was taken with the 10.5 DX fisheye, but this image has had NO defish as it didn't need one. All I did was crop the bottom a little to remove the noticably curved shoreline and crop the top top to make a more pano style shape which I felt suited the image. If you have the horizon going through the centre of the fisheye lens it remains straight. The shot was taken in shutter priority mode and is a 30 second exposure at F8, ISO 200. The image was taken at 6:49 PM so it was pretty dark by that stage. I used shutter priority because I wanted a long exposure to get the light and that's the easiest way to control that. Manual scares me ![]() Peter

Thanks you all for your comments.
I was pretty lucky with this (and the other shots from that outing) because mother nature provided the hot day and cloudless sky that contributed to the great sunset colours captured here. Peter

Hi Peter,
I had another close look on a high-res monitor (1650 x 1200). Really lovely shot. I was wondering if the photo would benefit from subduing the three reflections in the water on the left hand side and also straightening the horizon. Thanks for sharing, CD
