OK - after much nagging from my lovely husband and father and mother and son ( ;) ), I have decided to post a pic that I think is pretty cool :)

Image
D70, kit lens @ 48mm with 20mm extension tube, f7.1 1/200th ISO200 - handheld, manual focus (whatever all that stuff means!) :)

Very nice, the background is blurred nicely and the detail and different colours on the wings is great.
There may even be a reflection of you on the black torso - cool :)

I also think it is a very good shot.

There is just so much to see and learn on this forum. Being pretty new on this site, I have seen some great macro shots (and plenty of others too :D) and wish I could do that, but have been thinking that I need a macro lense to shoot closeup shots. Looking at the equipment you used though (no disrespect intended - I have a d50 with 18-55 and 70-300g kit lenses), maybe I do not ... I might have to look at those extension tubes.

How far away from the bee (?) were you when you took this photo?

General Question ... Do the extension tubes go between the camera body and the lense? Is there anything special to note or remember when using them?

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Russell

Thanks everybody!

It's really only the second time i have used the rings (and maybe only the 5th time with a camera in my hands) so I can't give you much info on them sorry rflower. But I am sure there are many people on here who are expert at it!

I was probably about 10" from him when i took this, he was very co-operative and hung around for 10 minutes while i snapped away.

Congratulations

Great shot Moccie! As a newbie to this photography thing myself, I'm already scared to post a pic....your wonderful shot is not helping that apprehension at all. :D

Great shot Moccie, how did you get the little critter to stay still? Do you talk to the animals? I can never get the varmints to sit still long enough to say cheese. :D

Great photo, post some more and let us enjoy. Ozi.
