Some happy snaps I took while Matt (AKA Rokkstar) and Sam visited Newcastle for a few days before they returned to wet old England. While I'm not much of a portrait photographer these came out reasonably well - especially given the quite harsh midday sun in the first two.

The best of these is the third one Peter - it just seems so much more natural, and how we remember them

I love the first 2....don't particularly like the last one (note the hairy leg) The first 2 are taken under broken light and normally this is a no no in photography. However, your fill flash balance was perfect and you have lightened up the shadows perfectly. The wild colours help to pop the images off the screen. These are some of the best portraits I have seen you produce....bloody well done!

Thanks for your comments people. As for flash - no flash was used for these shots. What you see is the result of Post processing since (a) the D2x has no onboard flash (which sucks) and (b) I didn't have the SB800 with me :lol:

Lovely portraits Peter, particularly given no fill flash. You've done a marvellous job lighting the faces in the harsh light. Looks very natural

I love them Peter. I never had the pleasure of meetingt Matt and Sam but these simple shots seem to illustrate their personalities somewhat. And isn't that exactly what portraiture is supposed to do? Great work mate.
