Yes, just had a first try at a portrait shootout.

Hi Yip,
The last two are by far my favourites. Very natural.
I 've never been able to understand why some people pose their models in the most unnatural way.

Nice work Yip. My fave is the last one, great pose and love the shallow dof.

I think the lighting is great in all of them. I also like #3 but I think its spoilt by the tree growing out of her head. #2 is a classic pose executed well. Overall its a great series you should be happy....

hi

3rd one is the best because it looks natural, the others look somewhat forced

I agree with Wendell, no3 is brilliant.

I'm thinking that was a prime lens? Some beautiful defocussed areas.

Good shots Yi-P.
IMHO:
#1 The chunky bag and bland whit top spoil the image - pose and DOF etc are great.
#2 Again the bland white top spoils this - Try a squarer crop - just below the bottom of her her and I think this would be a great head and shoulders shot.
#3 Great pose (very natural look) and DOF etc - again I think if you crop some of the top of the shot away (try square crop) it would improve the image
#4 Another great pose - good natural look - again I think if you crop some of the top of the shot away (try square crop) it would improve the image
Great results for your first portrait shoot. Chhers, Mick :) :) :)

Thanks all for the wonderful comments :) I too liked #3 the most and then #4 follows!! :P

Will keep those in mind and try out those square crops that Mick mentioned.

Great colour, depth of field, sharpness and contrast in all shots.

Only thing I could point out would be the big bag in the first and that's up to personal taste.

Last one is the favourite. Great lighting and atmosphere of thoughtfulness in the middle of a busy life :)

What lighting did you use? apart from the sun?

Thanks :)

First two was filled with a SB800 on TTL-BL (I think) mode with -1.7EV with lens stopped down.

Last two was shot "as is" with a wider aperture (f/1.4 and f/2), a slight trace of sunlight is coming from the left (as we view the image) and a little luck with help of natural winds for 'hair lifting' look.
