Nice shots! Are these heavily croped or pretty much full frame as they were taken?

Canon 350D, 18-55mm, F5.6, bulb, 100 ISO, 15-30" aprox.
EXIF is attached. To read them I use the free Opanda viewer.

Not far, from a "lookout" at the top of Gates Road in Hackham.

The 1st shot is full frame but the others are cropped.

wow, a 15 second shot? long exposures for lightning? i cant seem to grasp the science of it...

Excellent pics Paul...as well as the other SA gang on Weatherzone! 8)

Vikin70: You need to have a long exposure to photograph lightning at night, as to simply press the shutter when you see lightning will not work - our reflexes are not fast enough!! You have to leave the shutter open for extended periods to 'catch' it when it happens! I have often used 30 second exposures and not caught anything as the lightning isn't that frequent.

It's not easy, but well worth the effort when you are rewarded with brilliance as this!!

Well done again Paul, most of Melbourne missed out again...

Great first and second. Love the feeling of fire descending from the heavens in the second. Would like to see a slightly stronger foreground to balance the interest in the lightning...

Have tried this in the past and know how hard it is to get anywhere near the great shots you have got! Great work.

Great shot Paul. Didn't notice these until Stubbsy picked POTW. What a great intro to the forum. Welcome and hope you enjoy your time.
Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

great captures Paul

Not only did we get our first decent rainfall but at last we (Adelaidians) had a great chance to get some lightning shots...

but of course it coincided with a family birthday bash and I wasnt allowed to skip off for 'more bloody photos'

well done..hope you stayed dry.

cheers
