50mm 1.4 Portrait

Postby Geoff on Tue Nov 28, 2006 1:11 pm

I love this lens the more I use it.
Taken from the 'getting ready' phase at the bride's house of a recent wedding. I got quite close when shooting this but I am pretty happy with it. As said, 50mm 1.4 with LSPJ ISO 200, 1/60 F5.

C&C welcome.

Nice image Geoff! What distance were you away? Seeto.centric was looking at this lens, would be helpful to know the shooting distance.

Thanks Glen, from memory I was about 1 ft away. I will try to confirm later on today/tomorrow what the minimal focus distance is with this lens. It's a treasure!

Nice shot Geoff. I'm pretty sure the minimum focal distance is about 18 inches.
Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

The minimal focus distance with the 50mm 1.4 AF lens is 45cm. According to Nikon. From a personal perspective it seems closer than that. Hope this helps.

I love it too. I'm yet to take a bad shot with it (well, in my opinion anyway!)

Lovely soft lighting and good clarity Geoff, though it probably could have come back 10 cm or so.

Geoff, great shot.
Yes, very compact lens but powerful.
No need flash indoor.

you dont need to choose between them, everyone shoudl have at least the 50mm 1.8, any more than that is just gravy
I can't wait to get a 35 f2... and a 60mm micro, and then maybe a .....

That's from the film plane, not the front of the lens.

hehe right now ive got my eyes on the sigma 30mm, the 50mm can wait for now as i dont need it right away. it's just that 50mm is a bit too long for the job. unless i sit in the middle row or push the audience back!

as for the 85, well i think that might be a bit too much for me atm too.
ill probably rent a 70-200 for the night for the close up's and use the kit lens for the group shots at the end.
