I'm a tad annoyed about the jumping series as it was my idea and mistake as well Nothing wrong with the model and many thanks to her for being willing to keep jumping up and down while I got the shot.

After reviewing the photos, I remembered that the strobes were pointed at Laura while she was in a standing position. However the height she was jumping meant that she was jumping out of the sweetspot zone (height wise). Or was I completely wrong about this?

I don't mind the lighting so much in this one Wayne as I'm distracted by the background particularly the aircon grate. She also appears sharper (more frozen) at the top then she does at the bottom which is a little weird feeling.

Hi Alpha.. See, this is what happens when I take my eyes off a student for just a minute!. The reason the model is sharp in the top half of the body and bluured about her feet is that while she was at the top of the jump (and therefore no longer moving in the vertical for a moment) she was kicking her feet into the air and that is why they are blurred. Typically you would use a longer studio space for this kind of shot so that you can use a longer lens and avoid getting so much angle of view... we had divided Oz Beachsides lounge into two studios though and so things were a little more cramped than usual! Apart from the aircon duct and cropping, I like it.

I reckon the blurry feet give a good sense of motion which adds to the effect.
The lighting could have been better, I was standing there too and didn't think about the height of flash v height of Laura either...

Yeh I wasn't too happy about the aircon duct and the tv being in the bkg but had to make do with what we had. Don't think Bruce and Luke would have appreciated us doing some ad hoc renovations to their lounge

I'll have the lights and ducts moved for our next workshop

Just do a Mr Bean and cover everything in newspaper and set off a firecracker in a big tin of white paint. Leave to dry and problem solved

could have also been enhanced with hair out of a pony tail??

It's interesting what you don't think of at the time... I thought "what an interesting concept" and passively observed. If we'd thought a bit more we could have moved right and got rid of the duct and TV, angled the softboxes up, etc etc and I reckon it would have worked well. I suppose that's where these kind of days are good, allowing you to experiment with no pressure. It was my first go at studio lighting, and Laura's first go at modelling. I've been given a set of studio lights/background/stands etc and trust me, I'll have a play with more "jumpy" shots once I get set up as well as the usual stuff. It was a great day...
