i think this is my first post with images included..

but yes, last nite was our formal at Acer Arena. snapped off around 300 shots, many were OOF and overexposed because the AF for some reason kept missing.

Well done Julz, these ones have come out nicely. Hard to take good photos and enjoy yourself at the same time

indeed it is! one thing baffled me though- why the hired photogs pointed their guns up when the ceiling was either 3 or 4 levels high and in the lower sections, the ceiling was black.
they had stofens on, but i dont think that wouldve made much difference..

maybe i shouldve given it a go anyway!

Nice photos.

I have read an article re: pointing flash upwards...apparently it adds to the ambient light a little if you have a fast lens with aperture wide open... never tried it myself (need to get a flash first! )

hmm wouldnt mind reading that page, but from what ive read in the SB800 manual and various other material, the flash is meant to be bounced off white/bright/glossy/whatever surfaces... eg walls, ceilings.

the ceiling at acer arena was matte black painted and you could see the aircon vents so its more of a industrial style ceiling if that makes much sense.

i think its time for some experimenting!
im glad ive got a great set of batteries for it now! the old sets of energizer rechargeables were hopeless. standard energiser alkalines would last longer and recycle faster!
but i also suspect the charger may have been causing some problems too.
