Had the day off yesterday and took the kids to the Zoo for the first time. Whilst walking around, I managed to take a few photos here & there.

I really need to go back without the kids and spend some more time there....what a photographer's paradise

All taken with the D70 + Sigma 70-300.

C&C appreciated...

Lovely images I particularly like the first and last. Just a question regarding focal length, when using the 70-300 were you often at the 300 end ? I'm planning a trip to the zoo.. (have been for over a year..) but I've now got tickets that need using, so I'm interested ranges used / required.

thanks Craig.

I think the FL changed so much...depending on what I was shooting. For the animals that predominantly stayed at the back of their enclosures, you'd want to use 150-300mm easily. But for animals like the monkeys or meerkats (that come up close to you), you can go much shorter (unless you wanted "ultra-close" shots.

I probably could have used the kit lens on occassion, but didn't really have the time to go swapping lenses.
Most of the time though, I think you'll want telephoto....
