Me and the old boy had a crack at blockmounting images today.
Turned out much better than i expected... almost like i paid for it!
Thank god for the waterproofness of the the r1800 prints!

Nice shot of the Matilda bay boathouse =). Have you thought on entering it in the Perth Centre for Photography Christmas Show.
The PCP Christmas show opens on the 16th December at 7:00pm.
All PCP members are encouraged to submit prints for our salon style show. Then all PCP members and friends are welcome to join in the opening night festivities and have the chance to buy and sell some great work for under $100!
To enter your work, simply drop it off to PCP next weekend the 9th and 10th of December between 12-5pm.
And for those unlucky souls who are not currently PCP members an would like to take part - you can easily change that by joining when you drop off your work.
Entry is $5 for one print or $10 for three!

Wonderful image! More digital photographers should take their imagery to the finished state....a fine print. It is all about the print...not the monitor reduced, low resolution electonic picture.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I was really impressed with how it all turned out. Its not really too difficult at all. Just used 9mm mdf boards and trimmed some fancy edges on the sides. Painted them black.
The mounting was just done with care using PVA glue and a roller.

I agree - we went to a *cough* Ted's *cough* yesterday, and they had a whole bunch of frames on special (circa half price). I wouldn't necessarily say they are the nicest frames I have seen, but $14 for a frame that fits a 5x7 photo, I am not complaining. We ended up buying 5 (3 4x4, 1 5x7 and 1 A3) for about $70.

So all you did was stick your print on MDF ?? thats it?

what did you use for the laminate on the photo? can you just pick it up at any old bunnings or hardware shops? looking for ideas for friend's wedding present as i have a whole stack of photos to pick from

Well not sure really, maybe sprayed with some UV water proofing stuff paint or something or a special type of photopaper??

its just printed on epson premium glossy paper.
its waterproof and has a nice gloss to it already. No laminate or anything. So far it has seemed to work out well. Have struggled a bit wiping glue off the ilford smooth pearl paper, which doesn't seem to be as water resistant, definately splash proof, but not enough to really wipe off any bits of unwanted glue.
I suppose i just need to take extra care when using that paper
