Finally got a chance to try out my new Cokin P filters.

These are with a Graduated ND this afternoon just before sunset.

Great results! What strength Grad ND are you using?

It was a 2 stop Grad ND :D Sure makes a difference..

OK - Thanks for that.

I have a 3 stop Cokin, which I have never really got the results I hoped for with it. Might have to go and buy a 2 stop one. :) Also, is it the rapid gradient, slow gradient or normal gradient version?

Thanks,
Trisatn

Hmm, not sure but I would guess normal. It seems to have a nice smooth transition or blend.

Wow!!

Fantastic results - is the 2 stop advisable for most landscape shooters? your results are fantastic. Are they difficult to use or obtain similar results?

Thanks for the comments Kris and Peter :D

Kris, I think it depends on the conditions. You can see the difference as you compose the shot through the viewfinder though I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and uploaded to the computer.

As for ease of use. Piece of cake. Attach the filter holder (screws onto the filter thread). Just put the filter in the holder and slide it up or down until the blend is right and away you go. I used aperture priority and there you go. This was the first time I had used them although I had a quick try of a friend's set for a couple of shots a month ago. That's what prompted me to get them.

Mark, thats great! And who did you get yours though. I see they also do a polariser. So once you've got the holder you can simply slid in filters rather than buy expensive filters for each type to suit you lense? That seems rather nifty. I guess this is all old news but new to me :)

Kris, do a search on ebay for "Cokin P". I forgot to mention the polariser but I also got one for the reason that now I have a polariser that fits every lens I have. (77mm down)

I picked up the following on ebay (from multiple suppliers) for around $130.00. I had bits and pieces arriving from Hong Kong and USA for weeks :D

Filter holder, 72mm adapter, 77 mm adapter, .6 Grad ND, .9 Grad ND, Blue grad, 82 mm Circ Pol, lens carry box, 3 pack adjustable lens hoods, and a couple of full NDs

Some are not genuine Cokin but fit the filter holder perfectly as they are identical in size.

The filter I used for the shots posted here was a non-genuine and cost $8.00 AU :D Genuine from a local camera shop are around the $44.00 mark. Ebay is my friend

Thats great info thanks! *adds to my xmas shopping list* I was worried about guying out and buying CPLs for my lenses which seems like a waste when you can use this system.

A great idea!

Good shots Slider. Don't forget you can have more fun with some other Cokin filters to put in that same filter holder - Graduated sunset, grad mauve at dusk, grad pinf at dawn, plus my favourite, the blue/gold warming filter. Try more of them and you will be surprised at the results that will come.

Thanks Graham, now you've got me thinking about spending more money

I ordered my grad ND filters from qualitycamera and they arrived 2 days after I ordered them, but ordered the adaptor ring from HK on ebay, and they still haven't arrived yet. So I have to hold the filters infront of the lens.
Sometimes I wish that I just paid a bit more and ordered it all together and got it faster so I can use it :)

My filters are scratched already - that's because my friend was holding it infront of his lens which had a filter with the rough edges on the front, and turning it, now it's scratched :(:(! but doesn't show up in the pics, I hope :)
but the holder arrived today! can't wait to use it :)
