There's a big difference between shooting animals at the zoo to shooting them in the wild. (I know: duh!)

But I was struck by how animals in the bush are usually hiding from their predators or hiding from their prey; or running away from things they aren't familiar with. Consequently you get a lot of shots of animals' bums! :D

Here is an almost-submerged croc waiting for something juicy in the river behind our camp:

And a zebra that had been grazing, but was spooked by the sound of the Land Rover and ran past us at a fair old rate. I panned with the action using a relatively slow shutter speed to get this interesting perspective of the effective camouflage of the animal:

Trevor - the croc shot is wonderful for the reasons you've outlined and a great counterpoint to the more zoo type image I'm used to seeing.
