I dont really like how the head in the first one disappears into the BG.

Thanks GC, I was shooting straight into the setting sun across water so it was a very bright background. Probably explains the blending in the 1st. I thought the expression on the bird was worth it

Did you use any fill flash for these?

No, just straight up no flash. I was actually very surprised at the results.

Mark,

that lens with the D200 is a great combo. A bit of fill flash may have helped but still pretty nice.

I don't mind the first one, as you say, the gull looking right at you is very nice.

Nice birdies, now where's me shotgun.LOL Nope good pics of these lil scavengers, but hey i must say when there is nothing else to shoot they make good subjects at times and a few hot chips help as well.
