Tis a very interesting look Wendell. If you were to copy fine art paintings, you've got it spot on. Add artificial aged stains/creases and other antique-like artifacts and you've got the genuine look of a century old work of art!

Did you photoshop paint their faces white or were the models made up like that in real life?

thankyou chi
long time no speak

the alabaster finish is the result from makeup, exposure and lighting and judicious shopping at photoshop

Well done Wendell. 2nd one looks particularly like an old style painting to me. Just needs some of that ageing of the canvas!!

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Yes, the objective is certainly achieved Wendell. The 2nd one has an amazing glow to her eyes.

thankyou everyone appreciate it

thing is the styling(fashion) is quite modern compared to the classic paintings i was trying to mimic

I figured getting that painterly look has a lot to do with lighting and de-saturation of colours

and this is one of my first attemps at more balanced lighting, instead of my usual lights to side

so it was a goood test shoot

Tell us about the eyes Wendell. How have you handled them? 8)

hi matt

easy

first guideline is to try and keep the whites white and the blacks black
I acheieve this by using the levels
if the original tones look flat i up the contrast with 'levels'
that does alot

2nd thing is depending on the tones on the clothes or hair i always increase the saturation on the eyes to at least match any other vibrant colour in the image, in this case the edit works well because most of the tones are desaturated
by doing this I draw some attention to the eyes, i use this procedure on a case by case basis, generally i try to balance all tones

another aspect to nice eyes is the reflection of the light
in these examples the light is just above the head but low enough to
show in her eyes, the catch light position and shape is very important for eye definition

Wendell these are gorgeous lovely stuff, the make up helps, but your talent and skill as a photographer are shining as always.
