Ok I am now in Jasper and am taking a quite few moments to process some images...
The aim of these two images was to impart some feel for the texture of the snow... interesting shooting conditions, hard to get the exposure right without blowing out the highlights... spent quite some time playing with the curves of the raw file to get a nice steep curve over the brightness range of the snow to enhance the visability of the "Grain" of the snow...

Both images with d200+sigma10-20
anyhow enjoy:

What dreadful, terrible shots! :D

How can there be that much powder and not a ski mark in it!

Nice pics, great DOF and colours. You definetly have managed to save the grain in the snow.

Well done!

Believe it or not the snow in the village was much nicer than that on the ski hill.... busy time up there and much of the fresh was tracked out... Skiing Marmott in Jasper tomorrow so I will let you know how that goes

My grandfather built and ran Jasper House Bungalows south of the township from 1957 to 1975 (you would pass it on the left when you travel to the ski hill from town). We used to go up there in spring and fall to help him open and close it (he had arthritis so went south in winter) But we got to do some great spring skiing every year!

Ahhh, Marmot Basin great memories... I used to love Kiefer's Chute/Dream.

Sure is a lot bigger now though, Grandpa died in 1979, so the last time I skied there was probably 1974 or 75.....

Have fun!

Just back from Skiing Marmott...
Beyond a doubt one of the best and down to earth ski hills I have skied...

Photos to follow (sometime...)

Glad you enjoyed it! We used to hit Banff (Sunshine, Norquay, Lake Louise) some times and the only one that compared was Lake Louise due to it's size. Marmot was always my favourite though....

Look forward to the pics....

Lake Louise is one of the world's most photographed spots.

I was there in spring a few years ago, and it was even beautiful then.

Enjoy your skiing. :D
