Mossie in mirror

Hello everyone!

Yet more mosquito pictures! This one is a male culex mosquito as you can tell by it's bushy antennae. It uses these to 'listen' to humming frequencies given off by female mosquitoes of the same species. Well, thanks to a superb member here who goes by the alias "blacknstormy", I was inspired to write a few words about the subject just like he does!

I found this little guy resting on a mirror. This shot was cropped, levels were adjusted to give it a more vivid look and a simple frame was added. Nothing else was altered. Also attached are close-ups of the same. I also posted female of the same species in this thread here.

I made use of the regular arsenal that I normally do; Micro Nikkor 105mm 2.8D, Kenko 2x PRO teleconverter, Speedlight SB-800 (diffuser attached) and lots of patience!

Mine is a can of Mortein when it comes to these characters. :)

Impressive shots with incredible detail although for me I would have liked to see all of the mossie in the frame in #2 and 3 rather than the legs being cut off

Mate these are terrific, I've never seen mozzies in such detail the feathery details on their antenna. Testament to the nikon 105mm and the skills of the user. You must have allot of patience, makes me feel bad squishing them, almost.

Aaargh, i can just hear that infernal buzzing noise that makes me cringe when the lights go out wondering if im going to wake up in the morning to a series of mountains from one side of my face to the other. lol.

Awesome shots! Ill bet after you'd taken them you carefully put it outside to live again for another day. :)

I hate mozzies but I love your picture, whenever I hear one I will remember how intricate and beautiful they are before I kill it. :)
