i've been on hoilidayts for the last 3 weeks im enjoying having free time and becuase of it i have edited some pics from 2006 i havn't gone through yet

this set is backstage portraiture from Fashion Week - Melbourne
shot with the 28-70, shutter varied, f5, ISO800

i used the flash at minimum power just for catch light purposes
but most of the light is available light from several halogens backstage

this one has 2 light sources halogen on the right, fluorescent lightbox from makeup mirror illuminates the right side
Image

i positioned the model further away from the fluro lightbox got this, its a nice balance between cool and warm lights, getting the lighting just right on the face involved just getting her head to face the right angle till i got the lighting i wanted, there was a light at the back too giving a rim light on top of her head was cool.

1 halogen lightsource

most light from here is coming from the fluro lights on the makeup
personally i dont like fluros it makes people look sick, got no idea why those makeup mirrors had fluorescent lights opposed to the normal warmer lights but it worked a charm

The first one does it for me....love the eye contact and depth of field....very nice...

the last one comes a close second....with the middle vying for 2nd place...

jeez it sounds like a horse race..;)

Hey Wendell,
What's not to like about that first one - nice DOF, lovely colours and I like the pose. (Hey maybe I don't like the hairstyle  )

On my work monitor the last shot (and to a lesser extent the 2nd shot) have a bluish cast in the skin tone. Otherwise I think these are good shots also. Maybe it's just my monitor at work :?

The 3rd shot has lovely colors but the OOF eye is giving me some grief in this one.

Though overall these are good shot Wendell.

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Spec-fuckin-tacular!! The first one, the combination of light coloured eyes and flawless skin makes her look unreal, like a mannequin.

Short DOF and soft lighting combines to make great portraits.

hi thanks guys

oscar

the model in the 1st shot hasn't got her hair fully done, shes backstage waiting for the magic stuff to happen

as for the bluish cast, that's what i was aiming for a cooler delicate mood i shot near 2700Kelvin

chi thanks man great to see you taking notice of the mixture of ambient light, when i take a picture interesting lighting compliments the subject
