Hello all,
Would appreciate suggestions on how to light a subject like this better.
A very deep hole with water swirling at bottom.

If your feeling keen you could try putting an SB800 with suitable ballast into a small plastic container, putting it in the water or hole and then firing it remotely using the iTTL flash.... I have used similar techniques in the past. Main trick is to use a good quality plastic container.

Had not thought of remotes for this sort of thing.

Just test the container with some dishes or something heavy inside before you put a SB800 to submerge...

I've found Prestige screwtop containers to be quite waterproof, though I've never tried them at depth. I need them to hold fluids regardless of orientation. My supplier (Woolworths!) no longer stocks them, but they may be available elsewhere.

From the base of one of mine: "CLEAR Screwtop 1L Item Number 315628".
It is 1 litre in volume and will easily fit an SB800 with some ballast.

Edit: The SB800 doesn't fit Perhaps they do a larger size though.

you can buy a slim pipe rig(tape) one end to the sb800 attach sb800 to remote cord to camera

actually notr sure if this will just concentrate the light and youll most probably get a smal circle of light

but it may also reflect of the water and it may illuminate the whole thing
