First play with IR. Like Pat I didn't really know where to start when processing these shots, so I'd appreciate you thoughts on the different versions.

I'm going to post 5 images total - a couple of versions of the same two shots for the purpose of seeing which style of processing people prefer (or if they're all crap!), I hope that's OK.

#3 and #4 are my picks in this IR set. Like the composition ans IR colour shift in #3 and the compositiuon and colour shift in #4 seem to blend well together. The last looks a little too B&W ish. I have tried IR recently but not extensively and need to really work on it to start to get the results you have achieved here. Care to explain briefly how you went about it? Seems as though there needs to be quite a bit of trial and error in the process.

The discoloured "hot spot" (which is due to the lens causing flare in a specific wavelength band) is quite obvious in the colour photos, and for me is a negative. The position of the colour is fairly fixed in the frame, and trying to superimpose it on an interesting part of the composition can be tricky. The colour shifts in #4 have little to do with IR and the subject: just the position within the frame!

But luckily the flare ends up being just chroma information and not affecting the tone significantly (this is often the case) and thus the camera/lens seem to be producing reasonable monochrome results.

Marcotrov - yes it was a bit of trial and error. I tried to set the white balance to the green grass in camera raw, then for the black and whites just played with channel mixer in monochrome and curves until I got something I was sort of happy with.

For false colour DaveB has a free action on his website (in his sig) which I played around with a bit, plus I tried using Variations, Selective Colour and Channel Mixer in Photoshop as well. I didn't really know what I was doing so it was all just experimentation.

DaveB - yes the Tokina 12-24 definitely has a hot spot - we may just have to try our other lenses for false colour stuff.

I like the last one a lot .Really interesting composition and the conversion /IR effect looks great .
Not real keen on the colour effect in #1 ,#3 and #4. Looks like really really old film shots .That may have been the look you were after though .
