Comet McNaught in the West

As you all are probably aware, yesterday wasn't the best for comet gazing with heavy cloud cover. I managed to snap a shot just as it was passing through cloud layers. Not a particularly awesome pic but the online arm of the Sunday times liked it enough (must be slow news day :D ) to put it on their web front page.

p.s: I do not own or run a photography business (just asked them to mention a local collective of photographers, PIP in the byline and they spun that =)

Thanks gunn parker,
Was clear skies last night in the west, so how did the comet hunting go :D

Tried a few stack exposures last night to get more detail/brightness in the comet itself =)

Jammy2, the "slight unfocussed" pictures of Venus you have posted there are actually a *very* long way out of focus! Venus is on the far side of the sun and only ~10" across at the moment, and wouldn't be resolved- it would appear as a point source of light, but it appears rather large in your pics.
You did well to avoid any apparent camera shake with that much focal length though.

Thanks Gordon for the correction =) first time I've tried astrophotography and you are right that it is difficult minimising camera shake. I have removed the pic from my photostream to prevent any confusion.

Rather than start a new thread here's a pic of a conjunction with comet McNaught and Venus..sorry lens wasn't wide enough hence the tilt =)
