Comet Mcnaught - updated

Here we go, had a chance to process some from last night and bring out some detail in the coma..

Sweet. I've been trying to get a photo of it too, but every sunset here on Nowra Hill seems to get clouds covering the western horizon, even if there's been no clouds all day long.

Well done getting this shot. :)

Wow, the shot really show how hot the core of the comet is and the difference in temp is to the outside=)

Jammy, yes the coma is a lot different from the sublimating material forming the tail. Now if the clouds stay away for tonight we should be in for something special as by all acounts the tail is much more prominent now. It is a real pity that this is in a bright sky, makes it almost impossible to bring out the structure of the tail but we will be able to do that later in the month.. On the shorter exposures you can see colour in the coma.

I thought I had read here in Perth that it is going to fade out toward the end of the week, is it going to be visible for some time.

Here is my shot from last night.

Gunn, it is going to fade but at the same time the background sky is darkening, giving better contrast, so by taking a series of shots and stacking them together, even more detail can be brought out..
