Here is the first cab of the rank for my Batemans Bay photos, I spent a week visiting my parents and getting driving lessons, yes soon Craig might have his P's!

Anyways, try as I might I couldn't get all three boats still at the same time, but I did get two fairly sharp in this shot.

I like it as it is, but I am considering cropping the moving boat...

craig i like it as is.with a 30sec exposure i think you've done well to have two of the boats in focus.well done.

Craig - an excellent example of long exposure and a tribute to your skills

Are you sure the 3rd boat wasn't actually moving. The jetty looks to be mostly in focus, specially compared to that third boat.

As to the moving yacht in the LHS background I actually don't mind it, to me it gives a little depth to the image...

The image is great to me. The colours rich and deep. I love a long exposure...

Thanks for the feedback, I actually have a whole heap of different exposures, and angles with these boats, testing out how the D200 goes on the tripod, I've got a long way to go but so far I'm happily impressed. Here is crop that removes some of the distractions but is perhaps a little too close.

Great shot mate - sharp as a tack for that exposure. My preference is the first one tho.

Nice work Craig.

Perhaps using the first shot in your post try a crop to only just take out the OOF trawler and the lights from the town in the background and perhaps a little from the sky. As Brett said the yatch on the left adds to the depth of the shot and IMHO adds to the feel overall.

just a note on long exposures of boats in the water the boats move so they look blurry on a long exposure
lookign at the pic im sure you could of got a rock solid image by shooting higher shutterspeed and just bumping up the ISO, well maybe i dont know how much ambient light there was when you took it

Wendell, I did realise the slight waves were causing issues, but every so often you got a flat spot where you could get a shot off. Unfortunately car headlights were often caught in the boats windows, causing them to blow out, so it was challenging.

But just for you here is a High ISO faster Shutter speed shot, noiser, but the boats are sharp.

Even the noise added by the higher ISO adds to this photo rather than detract!

The crop in your last post of the first photo works well though. As a niggle maybe just clone out the green light just in the right hand edge, what do you think?

You have good eyes, I hadn't even seen that, its one of the channel marks for the boats to navigate the bar. But I see you point it does look a little out of place. Thanks!

Yeah!!! I like the third attempt Craig. As Brett said clone out the channel marker green light. Well spotted Brett - amazing how it came up when the shot was cropped!

So Craig - are you happy with the shot?

I think if I free up some time to do some blending I could reduce the hightlights and make the main boat a little more sedate.
