the most innovative dance routine involving contemporary dance 2 guys and 2 planks. It was quite amazing to see the routine they could come up with, while marrying their movements in tandem with 2 planks

this is the first event i shot at ISO3200 1/250 f2.8, the light was just a little too moody and dark

Hmmm ISO3200 ... must have been quite dark. I see, you shot at 1/250 to freeze motion. What lens was used (I'm just interested in focal length)? Also, how was the the white balance set? Preset or custom?

Wendell, I really like the shots and the drama you have captured. Nice bluish color cast. I also like the fact that you tried pushing the ISO without worrying about the noise too much. I normally don't go beyond ISO800 (I have a Nikon D70) myself but now I think I should!

Again, nice images. Well done.

Cheers,
Kamran

thanks karman

for this sort of low light shooting canon cameras reduce noise at high iso extremely well, but i got a nikon so i had to compromise depth of field by f2.8 and high iso i wasnt goign to compromise on shutter

you can see in the last image what f2.8 does both dancers are not in focus

but noise ain't an issue really in press you just have to get the image
blurry images(not the artistic ones) are not tolerated
so i boosted my nikon to 3200 to compensate for 1/250 to freeze motion
i shot it with a 70-200 VR on
white balance was set to 3000kelvin, the actuial lights were a bit bluish but i shot coolerm

in some scenes there was more light so the noise got canceled out a bit, hence a cleaner image

this image is a classic example where noise is annoying
low light under exposed, i would of liked this cleaner

wendell, see if you can get neatimage or noise ninja and go thru the NR process - might clean it up a bit. Of course won't be perfectly clean but could be better

When the light gets that crappy then it takes a lot of skill to get anything worthwhile. By under-exposing by 2 stops you can shoot at 12800 ISO! Drag back the detail in Photoshop and enjoy the grain. :D
