Awesome stuff once again Wendell. What ISO and did you have to NR these?

hi i think i shot using ISO800 1/250 f2.8
images are noisy but i used noise ninja to fix them up
thanks again

lthough i'm concerned about my workflow using noise ninja on these is an extra process and it adds more time to press submission

so there's no substitute to noise handling on a canon 1ds markII

Those images are very strong in a number of respects which I'm just starting to digest, but may I ask which technique you used to nail the exposure this perfectly?

Cheers
Steffen.

high stephen

i have experience on about 5 shows previously
1st try yielded crap results, through trial and error and evalauating previous results i get closer to nailing it

i use the 70-200vr

firstly i decide to see how much of the stage i can fit within 70mm then move back or forward to get the whole stage in frame

i first started with vr on in low light 1/125 but to freeze action 1/250 (vr off)minimum is required to compensate for that high shutterspeed i use f2.8 and high ISO from 800 to 3200 depending on the scene usually theatrical lighting is harsh but it's also dark and moody so the trick here is high ISO
r
canon users can shoot comfortably at iso1200 noise handling comparable to iso 400 on a nikon

i use a focus method of 'single area focus' and AF-C and focus on the subject i want, i get subtle DOF and sepeation of main subject and background, in some situations id rather shoot at f4

aperture or shutter priority modes don't work and aren't reliable in this sort of situation

I use manual exposure settings

white balance is always set on 3000Kelvin for halogen type spotlights
but if i want it cooler i go down to 2700K

still working on my technique though

every situation is different

Great shots Wendell,

love the third and fourth shots.

I did a dance show for a friend's daughter, it is not easy. You certainly seem to have mastered the technique. Thanks for sharing your technique.

As for Noise Ninja slowing down your workflow, bibble has Noise Ninja built in so it is actually very quick to use and adjust noise reduction. Once you do it on one image, just quickly copy those settings to similar images, done. Plus bibble is one of the fastest raw processors around.

Cheers,

André
